Five-Year Anniversary of the People’s City Red Labor Movement Service Station for Party & Mass Affairs of Power Plant December 21,2024
Service Station for Party & Mass Affairs of Power Plant
The Service Station for Party & Mass Affairs of Power Plant, located at No. 2 Tengyue Road, was formerly the No. 3 Transfer Station of Yangshupu Power Plant. As the core transfer building that once connected the power plant units with the coal conveyor belt, this structure carries the historical legacy of "a century of industry and the red labor movement." This building witnessed the industrialization process in the Yangshupu area and, after a meticulous renovation, has been revitalized. The building not only retains its industrial elements but has also been infused with modern functionality, becoming an important platform for showcasing red culture and passing on revolutionary spirit.
A Space Where History and Modernity Intertwine
The renovation design of the service station is unique, particularly the design of the stairs, which skillfully connects the building’s interior and exterior, creating an interactive and permeable layout. This design offers a sense of time travel, allowing one to feel the bustling atmosphere of the past power plant while also experiencing the innovation and comfort of modern architecture.
The building’s exterior plant trellis is another highlight of the design. Over time, various vines and green plants naturally grow on the trellis, covering the entire building’s facade. Sunlight filters through the leaves, casting dappled shadows and bringing life and warmth to this old industrial building.
History of the Red Labor Movement
As a platform for displaying the history of the red labor movement, the station vividly narrates the labor movement history of the Yangshupu area through various displays. From the awakening of the working class and their brave struggles to the arduous fight and the profound impact of the Yangshupu labor movement on national labor movements, the station brings this passionate period of history to life through a series of exhibits.
One notable figure in the labor movement, Wang Xiaohe, a martyr who started working at Yangshupu Power Plant at the age of 19, organized the labor movement. He was arrested in 1948 and bravely sacrificed his life on September 30 of the same year. Through these displays, visitors gain a deeper understanding of the hardships and heroic spirit of that era, inspiring patriotism and admiration for the struggles of past generations.
A Multifunctional Service Space
The station is not only a platform for showcasing red culture but also a multifunctional space for citizens to engage in various public activities. The station’s layout is well-organized, with clearly defined functional areas. As a forefront for party-building promotion and convenient services, the station has a dedicated service window for the Service Center for Party & Mass Affairs, offering a range of services to help citizens understand party activities and knowledge and actively participate in social development.
In addition, the “Revival Collective” public space inside the station hosts a variety of cultural activities. Regular events, such as birdwatching training and knowledge lectures, attracting the participation of residents and visitors alike.
During birdwatching events, professional guides lead students and their parents in observing riverside birds, learning about ecology, and raising environmental awareness. These events not only strengthen citizens' environmental consciousness but also promote cultural exchange within the community.
The Service Station for Party & Mass Affairs is a building that seamlessly integrates history and modernity.
