The Fifth Anniversary of the "People's City": "Little Yang" Appears at the Shanghai Book Fair, Giving New Books and Good Books to Citizens, Writers and Readers Face to Face August 18,2024
This year marks the fifth anniversary of the proposal of the "People's City" concept. As the birthplace of this concept, Yangpu is witnessing the vigorous development of the digital economy and the vibrant pulse of life. Let's experience this increasingly "YOUNG" People's City together...
"I saw the announcement from the 'Shanghai Yangpu' Official Account a couple of days ago. As soon as I arrived at the book fair today, I went straight to our district's themed booth and felt particularly close!" Little Xue, a born-and-bred Yangpu kid, checked in at the first stop of the Shanghai Book Fair this summer and felt full of surprises.
The 2024 Shanghai Book Fair and "Book Fragrant China" Shanghai Week are in full swing. On August 18, with the strong support of "Shanghai Release," the District Publicity Department, the District Cyberspace Administration Office, and the District Convergence Media Center joined forces to bring 3 Yangpu writers and translator writers to the book fair, jointly holding the "Yangpu Theme Day" activity. The writers recalled Yangpu stories with readers and signed and gave away books. There were also activities such as scanning codes to give away exquisite gifts, attracting the participation of many citizen readers.
Writer Signatures + Book Giveaways, Conveying the "Nostalgia" in a Book
Coming to the "Shanghai Release" booth E1-31 in East Hall 1 of the Shanghai Exhibition Center, you can see the "Shanghai Yangpu" special area. Today, the writer interaction segment is particularly lively. Yangpu writers Zhou Jianxin and Liu Xiang brought their works "The Five Corners of Wujiaochang" and "Time—A Personal Yangshupu Narrative" respectively, and Yangpu translator writer Tang Shuangjie brought the translated work "Hot Mess: What on Earth Can We Do About Climate Change ?" They signed for readers on the spot and gave away books.
"The Five Corners of Wujiaochang" was published in July this year and is "freshly baked." The book collects more than 50 non-fiction essays, which are the heartfelt expressions of the author Zhou Jianxin who has lived in Wujiaochang for more than 30 years. Xiangying Cinema, Chaoyang Department Store, the old post office... The author uses a series of landmarks, with delicate strokes and a documentary approach, to depict the past and present of Wujiaochang, recording the living conditions and aspirations of the people here in the changes of urban space with deep affection.
"Time—A Personal Yangshupu Narrative" takes Shanghai urban life as its theme. Yangpu is the largest central urban district in Shanghai. Through non-fiction writing, the author uses a tone that combines prose culture with storytelling, looking back, recording, and restoring various humanistic and social scenes and interesting life scenarios in our district from the 1960s to today from a unique perspective and old photos.
The translated work "Hot Mess: What on Earth Can We Do About Climate Change ?", written by British author Matt Winning, was published in July this year and is an amusing popular science book. The book mentions that humans are facing a global climate crisis. Meteorologists predict that there will be more unexpected extreme weather in the future. The book explores three questions in the face of climate change: "Should we change?" "Can we change?" "Will we change?" It aims to inspire public awareness of climate change.
During the activity, readers lined up in a long queue. Reader Ms. Zhao said that she had just come to Yangpu to attend university and felt everything around her was new. A book that carries the memory of the district may become her "decoding book" for life. "I just arrived in Yangpu recently and had only heard that Yangpu has a place called Wujiaochang before. Now I want to learn about the culture related to Wujiaochang through this book, so that I can better integrate into the cultural soil here."
"Wujiaochang has undergone tremendous changes in recent years, especially in the past two or three decades. I am a personal witness and also an observer. I have very deep feelings for it. I hope that through this book, I can tell the history of Wujiaochang well, as well as the humanistic scenery of Wujiaochang, so that more people can get close to Wujiaochang and fall more in love with our Yangpu," said writer Zhou Jianxin.
Yangpu Cultural Creativity Keeps Giving, Adding to the Happiness of Urban Life
At the activity site, the organizers also joined hands with the District Library, the Yangpu Riverside People's City Construction Planning Exhibition Hall, as well as leading internet enterprises Bilibili and Meituan, to carry out a series of check-in and follow activities. Citizen readers could scan the code to follow the "Shanghai Yangpu" WeChat Official Account and download and register the "Shanghai Yangpu" APP to receive exquisite cultural creativity peripheral products such as bookmarks, ties, and silk scarves. The activity aimed to let everyone get close to Yangpu through interaction and pay attention to the beautiful changes in our district.
Many "old Yangpu people" came after hearing the news, full of enthusiasm. For them, this urban district full of the flavor of life is home, carrying youthful memories and future lives. "I feel very close in the activity! Usually, I go to Wujiaochang almost every week, especially the market on University Road. I already have deep feelings for our district," said reader Xiao Xue.
Reader Mr. Xu happened to be the 10th citizen reader to participate in the activity. As a special reader, he received a Meituan cultural creativity peripheral. "Our district has always had many science and technology innovation enterprises gathered. Today I also received a Meituan peripheral, I feel very lucky!"
In this activity, our district also set up multiple "blog" booths on site—on the square display shelves, Yangpu enterprise BILIBILI dolls, Meituan figures, and "Shanghai Yangpu" commemorative notebooks were exhibited, attracting the attention of many readers. A reader sighed, "I hope our district gets better and better, and I also look forward to meeting Yangpu at the Shanghai Book Fair every year."
