5th Anniversary of People's City Concept | New Look of SIMIS Unveiled as Renovation Completes August 14,2024
This year marks the 5th anniversary of the concept of people's city. As the place where it was first proposed, Yangpu is thriving with a flourishing digital economy and a dynamic, youthful spirit. Let's immerse ourselves in this city that is becoming increasingly "YOUNG" for the people...
Located at 657 Songhu Road in Yangpu, the new research and development institution—Shanghai Institute for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (SIMIS) is now fully operational!
Recently, the renovation project of SIMIS has been concluded, obtaining a completion and acceptance certificate. The research institute is a new-type R&D institution supported by Shanghai Municipality, Yangpu District and Fudan University. It is poised to make groundbreaking contributions to fundamental mathematical theories and applied research, propelling the innovation and development of high-end industries.
Positioned within the KIC International Plaza of the GKIC Functional Zone, SIMIS enjoys a strategic location in one of Yangpu's four key functional zones, an urban area consistently developed by STI Group. The institute's building spans 18 floors, offering a substantial office space of 24,330.12 square meters. Inside, one can find newly designed and aesthetically pleasing spaces such as the exhibition area, the lecture hall, the research floor for scientists, the reading room and classrooms, each reflecting a unique academic atmosphere.
Led by the world-famous mathematician Prof. Shing-Tung Yau, SIMIS was inaugurated in Yangpu in January of this year and is currently in the process of settling in.
Looking ahead, SIMIS aims to establish a presence in Shanghai, extend its influence across the Yangtze River Delta, and go global. It will concentrate on fundamental and applied mathematical research across a spectrum of disciplines, including life sciences, AI, big data, environment, physics, chemistry, economics and finance. By tackling significant scientific issues and challenges, the institute will endeavor to produce notable original innovations and establish a world leading basic science platform that integrates basic research, talent introduction and talent training, thus creating a world-class center for mathematical studies.
Throughout the renovation project, SIMIS received rigorous oversight and dedicated mentorship from various departments of the Yangpu Construction Management Center. A dedicated task force was assembled by Yangpu to ensure the project's smooth progression, promptly address diverse needs, and resolve any problem that arose during the process, according to Jiang Xiaobo, Vice President of STI Group (the project's construction agent) and Acting Vide Director of SIMIS.
Once fully operational, the institute is expected to draw a host of young and promising talents in mathematics and other basic disciplines, elevate the level of basic research in Yangpu, bring in research resources and innovative projects, and foster collaborative opportunities with local universities and businesses.
