5th Anniversary of People's City Concept | Drainage Systems of Yangpu's Five Roads Upgraded for Safety August 07,2024
This year marks the 5th anniversary of the concept of people's city. As the place where it was first proposed, Yangpu is thriving with a flourishing digital economy and a dynamic, youthful spirit. Let's immerse ourselves in this city that is becoming increasingly "YOUNG" for the people...
Making the city safer and more livable is the expectation of the people. Yangpu has thoroughly implemented the concept of people's city and comprehensively advanced the building of a resilient and safe city. Recently, the Yangpu Water Management Center (YWMC) has successfully completed the upgrade of drainage pipes on five roads, contributing to the city's capability enhancement and upgrade. Here are the details:
At 10 a.m., we visited Guohe Road and Sanmen Road, where a newly laid asphalt road bustled with traffic, and manhole covers are neatly lined up along a hundred-meter stretch. The greenery on both sides of the road is well arranged, giving the neighborhood a fresh new look.
Mr. Jiang, a local resident who runs a repair shop nearby, said, "The project finished just a few days ago, and we are very satisfied with the outcome. Previously, during the flood season or extreme rainstorms, this road section would accumulate water, making travel very inconvenient. Now that the underground pipes have been renovated, a recent heavy rain has shown that the road drainage is very efficient, indicating that the project has been very effective. I give a thumbs-up to the government."
This project involves five roads: Minfu Road (from Shiguang Road to Guohe Road), Sanmen Road (from Shiguang Road to Guohe Road), Fushun Road (from Changling Road to Huangxing Road), Dinghai Road (from Boyang Road to Yangshupu Road) and Jingxing Road (from Yulin Road to Pingliang Road), with 1,798 meters of DN1000-DN1200 combined sewer pipes replaced in total. The project also includes the reconstruction and connection of branch pipes along the roads, the rebuilding and connection of sewer grates, the restoration of roads and green spaces, the necessary protection and relocation of existing pipelines, and other ancillary works.
Since the project began, YWMC has actively coordinated with all participating units, taking measures to reduce the impact of construction on road traffic. By reducing construction time, accelerating construction progress and setting up road signs, they have eased the inconvenience to vehicle traffic. Additionally, during morning and evening peak hours, professional personnel have been assigned to direct traffic, ensuring the interests of local residents to the greatest extent possible.
With the successful completion of the drainage pipe upgrade project on the five roads, the drainage capacity has been elevated to a level that can handle a once-in-five-years rainfall event, effectively addressing issues such as road water accumulation and traffic congestion for local residents, and creating a smooth and comfortable travel environment. Moving forward, YWMC will stay focused on livelihood issues, explore and promote more environmentally friendly technologies, and provide higher-quality water services to residents.
