This year marks the 5th anniversary of the important concept that "the people built by the city should serve the people" proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping in Yangpu. On August 5, 2024, nearly 20 volunteers from the newly established Yangpu Disease Control Center (District Health Supervision Office) and Shanghai First Rehabilitation Hospital visited the site of Meituan Technology Project of China Railway No.3 Group in Yangpu Riverside. They provided comprehensive health services to the workers, covering disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment of common diseases, rehabilitation physiotherapy, protection against occupational hazards, and the safety of food and drinking water, allowing the builders of Riverside to experience the warmth of Yangpu and to feel the vibrancy of this increasingly "YOUNG" city.

As extreme high temperatures continue in the summer, heatstroke and food safety have become significant risks to the health of construction workers. This event provided detailed explanations and on-site supervision on how to prevent heatstroke and ensure the safety of food and drinking water for the workers. The volunteers from the Yangpu Disease Control Center (District Health Supervision Office) detailed the causes of heatstroke, the specific risks of heatstroke on construction sites, the typical symptoms of different types of heatstroke and corresponding countermeasures, as well as the prevention of common infectious diseases on construction sites. They also used a combination of pictures and case studies to explain the importance of food safety in summer and the prevention of foodborne diseases, distributing promotional flyers and emphasizing that everyone is the first responsible person for their own health, which was well received by the workers present.

Subsequently, the volunteers inspected the construction site's cafeteria, drinking water facilities and heatstroke prevention measures. They offered suggestions for enhancing kitchen hygiene management, meal supply processes and food sample preservation to ensure a secure and trustworthy food safety environment for the workers. The health inspectors swiftly tested the construction site's tap water using portable water quality testing devices. After collecting and analyzing the samples, they explained the findings to the construction management, disseminated information on the hygiene of secondary water supply, and educated the workers on their rights to be informed about, participate in and oversee the hygiene of their drinking water, ensuring the builders can use water confidently and comfortably during the sweltering summer months.

Accompanied by the site supervisor, the volunteers braved the sweltering 39-degree heat and visited the construction site to assess the heatstroke prevention and cooling measures. They provided professional recommendations to prevent heatstroke, emphasizing the importance of supplying anti-heatstroke medications and electrolyte-enriched drinking water, establishing shaded rest areas and air-conditioned break rooms, ensuring proper nutrition for construction workers, and arranging rest periods sensibly. They insisted that employers develop and refine emergency response plans and rescue procedures for heatstroke incidents.

This event marked the involvement of Party members from the newly established Yangpu Disease Control Center (Health Supervision Office) in the "Guarding Health, Sharing Care" Party building initiative of the Yangpu Health Work Party Committee. It was a proactive step to embody the spirit of the recently concluded 9th Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Yangpu District Committee, showing the determination to drive progress and actively explore ways to contribute to people's city building in Yangpu. Moving forward, all staff of the Yangpu Disease Control Center (Health Supervision Office) will concentrate their efforts on the theme of people's city building, adhering to the work standard of "leading by example and being at the forefront", and with a strong sense of historical initiative, they will strive for the high-quality development of the district's disease control and health supervision endeavors to protect the health of Yangpu's residents.
