In December 2023, the first Meituan drone route in Shanghai's central urban area opened in our district; recently, the Meituan drone Huangxing Park route has also entered the trial operation stage. Since starting the exploration of drone delivery services in 2017, more Meituan low-altitude application scenarios are continuously being unlocked in our district.

How do drones deliver takeout? Is it safe for drones to deliver takeout? Recently, we located Huangxing Park to immersively experience the "air drop" efficiency of ordering drone takeout in the park.

Picking up the meal, weighing it, checking the food safety label, ensuring that the food meets the delivery standards, packing it in a box, and attaching the takeout... At 11 a.m., the coffee takeout we ordered "took off" from Wujiaochang HOPSON ONE.

As it was the day when Shanghai issued its first typhoon blue warning this year during the interview, we couldn't help but worry about whether the strong wind would affect the normal flight of the drone. The relevant person in charge introduced that Meituan drones have flown over Turpan and withstood Changbai Mountain, and high temperatures, moderate rain, moderate snow, and level 6 winds cannot stop their progress. 7 minutes later, we successfully picked up the coffee at the air drop cabinet in Huangxing Park 2 kilometers away, about 20 minutes faster than the estimated delivery time of ordinary takeout.

Having solved the problem of delivery timeliness, we had another concern. There are many residential areas near the park. Will the low-altitude flight of drones for delivery cause noise pollution? For this, the engineers also made a special design. The propellers of the drones use boundary layer flow control technology to suppress noise. When operating 50 meters away, the noise is only about 51 dBA, lower than the sound level of two people talking normally. Meituan drones also have a three-level safety guarantee mechanism of "redundant backup operation + safe forced landing + emergency parachute deployment" to ensure the safe and timely delivery of each meal.

Since Meituan launched the first drone route in the central urban area of Shanghai in our district last year, the government-enterprise cooperation in developing the low-altitude economy has made beneficial explorations. The landing of this new route in the park scenario is also the result of our district actively responding to the relevant requirements of the "Shanghai Low-Altitude Economy Industry High-Quality Development Action Plan (2024-2027)," promoting the transformation from "niche trials" to "mass experience," and continuously expanding and innovating low-altitude application scenarios. By strengthening policy support, promoting technological innovation and application demonstrations, our district will widely apply drone technology in multiple fields such as logistics and delivery and urban governance, striving to play a leading role in the development of the low-altitude economy and improving citizens' quality of life and urban management level.

Recently, during his research visit to the Meituan drone control center, Xue Kan, Secretary of the District Committee, pointed out that the low-altitude economy is both a typical representative of new productive forces and an important direction for cultivating new development drivers. Our district has an early layout in the low-altitude economy track and has good basic conditions. It is hoped that enterprises will seize opportunities, amplify advantages, continue to play a leading role in the industry, create more low-altitude application scenarios, and help the deep integration of the real economy and the digital economy. Our district will accelerate the improvement of the institutional mechanisms for the development of new productive forces adapted to local conditions and create a more favorable environment for the development of the low-altitude economy.

We learned from the District Science and Economy Commission that our district is seizing the new track of the low-altitude economy and plans to carry out the "five ones" work, namely "introduce one policy" to accelerate the formulation of the "Several Measures for Promoting the Development of Low-Altitude Economy in Yangpu District"; "hold one event" with the theme of "Discussing the Charm of Digital Yangpu and Empowering New Productive Forces" to hold the "Yangpu Low-Altitude Economy Development Seminar"; "sort out a batch of enterprises" to sort out the "List of Top 100 Domestic Low-Altitude Economy Enterprises"; "build one platform" to promote the construction of a testing platform for low-altitude economy-related technologies; "break through one difficulty" to coordinate and support Meituan in carrying out cross-elevated route trials.

Takeout flies in the sky, and the new blue ocean of the low-altitude economy is opening its curtains.
