A wave of cross-boundary creativity has recently surged through Fuxing Island: the 2025 Fuxing Island Global Design Competition has kicked off with a highly anticipated promotional event. This extraordinary convergence of the world's leading designers, tech trailblazers, and cross-disciplinary innovators has not only sparked the imagination for future cities but also shattered traditional constraints with its "boundless" philosophy, propelling Shanghai's journey toward becoming a quantum city.

The event blended an on-site presentation with a live stream. Hundreds of attendees convened offline, comprising representatives from key enterprises and secretariat units across Yangpu's industrial chains, along with faculty members from leading universities citywide. Meanwhile, over 2,000 domestic and international participants tuned in online to hear the presentation.

An integral part of Shanghai's "space-time intelligent governance" initiative, this competition is hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Planning and Resources (SMBPR) and the Yangpu District People's Government. It zeroes in on the three key orientations of Fuxing Island: a "digital intelligent island", a "design art island", and a "people's city island". The competition calls for cutting-edge schemes across nine domains, such as public space, smart communities, low-altitude economy, and metaverse scenarios. Since its March debut, it has garnered significant interest from a diverse array of participants, including tech firms, design studios, independent designers, commercial operators, and product companies. The competition's boundary-breaking approach - "no limits on region, profession, qualification, or work" has emerged as a powerful catalyst for innovative diversity.

Nestled at the confluence of the Fuxing Island Canal, the Qiu River, and the Huangpu River, Fuxing Island is Shanghai's sole inland island by the Huangpu River, with an abundance of usable shoreline.
