Yangpu Rushes to Aid of Shigatse's Quake-hit Areas January 09,2025
On January 7, 2025, at 9:05 A.M., a 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit Dingri County in Shigatse, Tibet, causing significant casualties and the collapse of numerous buildings.
The earthquake has tugged at the hearts of the people in Shanghai. To assist the people in the affected areas in resuming their normal lives and production as soon as possible, and to fully support the rescue efforts and post-disaster reconstruction, the Yangpu Representative Office of the Shanghai Charity Foundation (SCF), under the unified arrangement of SCF, has initiated a special campaign called "Shanghai's Love Warms Dingri - Aiding Quake Relief in Dingri and Other Quake-hit Areas in Shigatse". This campaign accepts social donations in cash and supplies.
Disasters are merciless, but human compassion prevails. Currently, all rescue operations are in full swing. According to the plans of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the CPC Yangpu District Committee and the Yangpu District People's Government have responded swiftly, extending their condolences to the affected areas immediately and urgently raising 2 million yuan in special funds for Lhatse County, Shigatse. These funds are designated for rescue operations and the resettlement of the affected people. The Lhatse division of Shanghai's 10th Tibet-aiding cadre liaison group has swiftly joined local officials and residents in the rescue efforts.
In the meantime, the Cooperation and Exchange Office of Yangpu District People's Government is actively assessing the needs for rescue materials and coordinating with the Yangpu Representative Office of SCF, the Red Cross Society of Yangpu, and other relevant departments for fundraising efforts.
Following the earthquake, Meituan promptly activated an emergency response. It partnered with government departments and public welfare organizations at the earliest possible time to secure a substantial quantity of warm clothing and food. In addition, Meituan Medicine collaborated with its ecosystem partners like Fokind and Hynaut, to purchase 300,000 boxes of emergency medicines and first-aid kits, along with 10,000 boxes of warming patches, to address the local needs for disaster relief supplies, living arrangements, and emergency medical care. The first batch of badly needed medicines reached the quake-hit area in Dingri County at 12 A.M. on January 7.
More than 3,600 cotton-padded jackets, 2,400 quilts, 1,700 blankets, and other cold-weather items, along with 1,000 boxes each of bottled water, milk, and instant noodles, are being delivered to various disaster relief sites. The Meituan Charity Foundation, in partnership with the One Foundation, has provided local children with winter warmth packages containing cotton boots and windbreakers, as well as tsamba (roasted barley flour), flour, and other living supplies, which are being dispatched successively.
Papergames has teamed up with the Tibet Development Philanthropic Foundation to donate 2 million yuan to aid the quake-it areas. Shanghai Yangpu Liangyou Food Co., Ltd. has got into action by allocating 100,000 yuan from the Yangpu Liangyou Charity Foundation for the special action to aid quake relief efforts in Dingri and other quake-hit areas in Shigatse. Shanghai Hafu Tendering Services Co., Ltd. has donated 100,000 yuan for quake relief and post-disaster reconstruction efforts.
