Illuminating Yangpu: New Lighting under Inner Ring Elevated Bridge July 18,2024

By day, it's a hive of activity; by night, it's a spectacle of lights.

The first phase of the landscape lighting project for Inner Ring Elevated Bridge (under the bridge in the section from Songhuajiang Road to Zhoujiazui Road) has been wrapped up, according to the Yangpu Bureau of Greening and Urban Appearance Management. The striking illuminations have ushered in a delightful nocturnal experience for those on foot!

In accordance with the overarching strategy of the Shanghai Landscape Lighting Master Plan (2024-2035), and in conjunction with key tasks such as the rejuvenation of Inner Ring Elevated Bridge and the enhancement of the under-bridge space, the district landscape management department has been actively advancing the lighting project for the Yangpu section of Inner Ring Elevated Bridge.

The underbelly and the space beneath the bridge, serving as crucial lighting elements for the Yangpu section of Inner Ring Elevated Bridge, are illuminated with LED floodlights featuring anti-glare technology. The lights emit a warm hue on regular days, with festive color variations for special occasions. The underside squares of the bridge at significant road intersections are also lit in sync, displaying a gradual dynamic change that enhances the appeal of the landscape lighting. Warm-colored LED fence lights have been installed within the green belts under the bridge, enriching the nocturnal ambiance of the shade-tolerant plant ecosystem.

There are 54 spans of under-bridge space in the section of Inner Ring Elevated Bridge from Songhuajiang Road to Zhoujiazui Road. The bottom lighting brightens the bridge belly, while the fence lights on the ground are arranged in a curvilinear pattern. The lights are strategically placed at varying heights, creating a harmonious and layered urban space. The overall effect is softly distinctive, offering a unique visual treat for residents along the route, which has been well-received by the public.

Ms. Cheng, a local resident who recently passed through the area, said, "My daughter and I were walking by, and she said the blue lights looked like waves, which I agreed with. Previously, the scenery here was quite plain, but now it offers different views day and night. The under-bridge space is an integral part of the urban public space, and the artistic touches add vibrancy to life."
