"Shanghai-Hong Kong United Youth Economic Exploration and Exchange Delegation" Kicks off Magical Journey in Yangpu July 09,2024
On the morning of July 7, the welcome ceremony for the "Shanghai-Hong Kong United Youth Economic Exploration and Exchange Delegation" took place at Shanghai Shidong Experimental School (SSES). Dong Xinwang, Member of the Standing Committee and Director of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Yangpu District Committee and Chairman of the Yangpu Overseas Friendship Association (YOFA); and Mak Tak Chuen, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Executive Vice Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong-Shanghai Associations (FHKSA) and Director of the Youth Committee of FHKSA, attended and addressed the ceremony.
Dong extended a warm welcome to the "Shanghai-Hong Kong United Youth Economic Exploration and Exchange Delegation", highlighting Yangpu's profound four-century legacy, as well as its status as a national innovative urban area, a national innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration base, and a key support area for Shanghai's tech innovation center, as well as the place where General Secretary Xi Jinping's concept of people's city was first proposed. He encouraged the Hong Kong students to walk around to find out the economic and social development of Yangpu and Shanghai, to feel the city's charm and local customs, and to gain an unforgettable learning experience.
Mak expressed his thanks for the substantial support and thoughtful arrangements from the organizer, noting the significance of this event during Hong Kong's transition from disarray to good governance and prosperity. The high-speed train journey from Hong Kong to Shanghai deepened the students' understanding of their motherland, and the upcoming days in Shanghai and Yangpu will further their knowledge of the region's development, enhancing their sense of national identity and inspiring the youth of both Shanghai and Hong Kong to collaboratively create a bright future from a new starting point.
Student representatives from TWGHs Mrs. Fung Wong Fung Ting College, TWGHs S.C. Gaw Memorial College, TWGHs Kwok Yat Wai College, TWGHs C.Y. Ma Memorial College and TWGHs Mr. & Mrs. Kwong Sik Kwan College introduced their respective colleges.
Zhang Xiaoying, Secretary of the General Party Branch of SSES, and Lau Hon Cheong, Vice Principal of TWGHs S.C. Gaw Memorial College exchanged commemorative gifts symbolizing their earnest expectations and heartfelt blessings.
Chiu Kwok Wing, Hong Kong Member of the CPPCC Yangpu District Committee and President of the Hong Kong, Shanghai Yangpu and Macao Federation, presented a certificate of gratitude to Wu Qunying, Deputy Director General of the Yangpu Education Bureau (YEB), accompanied by Fu Kin Chi, Hong Kong Member of the CPC Yangpu District Committee and the leader of the "Shanghai-Hong Kong United Youth Economic Exploration and Exchange Delegation".
During the event, students from TWGHs S.C. Gaw Memorial College performed the school song, the song Red Sun, and a card magic show amid the cheer and laughter from the audience. Students from SSES then showcased a unique blend of piano, Hulusi (a Chinese musical instrument), dance and calligraphy, amazing the Hong Kong students with their innovative performance. Additionally, students from both Shanghai and Hong Kong collaboratively created the distinctive handicraft "Dragon Scales" which featured exquisite designs and delicate brushwork, showcasing the students' harmonious teamwork.
Chen Min, Vice Chair of the Yangpu Overseas Friendship Association (YOFA); Wu Qunying, Deputy Director General of YEB; Shen Hong, Principal of SSES; Zhang Xiaoying, Secretary of the General Party Branch of SSES; and Huang Lifang, Vice Principal of SSES, along with Lau Hon Cheong, Vice Principal of TWGHs S.C. Gaw Memorial College, attended the ceremony.
In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 27th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, guided and supported by the United Front Work Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Shanghai Overseas Friendship Association, FHKSA, the Hong Kong-Shanghai Youth Association and the Shanghai Hong Kong Federation jointly organized the Shanghai-Hong Kong United Youth Visit and Exchange Event. A total of 750 Hong Kong middle school students traveled to Shanghai via high-speed train for an up-close look at Shanghai's history, culture, and current development. Among them, over 90 teachers and students from five Hong Kong middle schools visited Yangpu for a survey and exchange from July 7 to 11. It is believed that through various activities such as teacher-student interactions, community visits, company visits and venue visits, the students from Shanghai and Hong Kong will gain a deep appreciation of Shanghai as a humanistic, innovative and ecological city.
