The “YEAHH PARK” sports event was held in Yangpu District August 08,2023
As trendy sports such as landsurfing and pickleball are getting popular, sports have become a way of life for young people, being everywhere in their lives, and the community has the possibility of nurturing urban sports culture.
The “YEAHH PARK” sports event took place at the Knowledge and Innovation Center (KIC), Yangpu District from August 5 to 6 and continued on August 12 and 13. Sports lovers enjoyed exciting nightlife together on the pleasant summer night of “sports, health, trend and fusion”.
In order to better develop and utilize sports resources in the region and promote the new life values of urban sports, YEAHH PARK, an urban sports program featuring community co-construction, was established at Jiangwan Sports Center, a century-old building at KIC, and inaugurated on August 5.
At the event, citizens took part in the exciting water gun 5V5 battle show in a swimming pool, the music flywheel challenge and the electronic music riding party in a swimming pool. In the afterglow of the setting sun, they drunk summer specials, had a camping exchange party and enjoyed themselves in nature while having relaxing conversations with friends.
Six major categories make sports outstanding and community boundless
The first YEAHH PARK offline space interacts with the architectural structure of Jiangwan Sports Center, ingeniously presenting the concept “YEAHH’S MY LIFE” and endowing it with the functions of a living room and an incubation place for sports community culture.
“The name of the program demonstrates our new understanding of urban sports and our expectations for the program.” According to Cheng Fangfang, head of the community brand, YEAHH is short for Youth, Environment, Achievable, Healthy and Hahahaha (optimistic attitude).
To achieve this vision, YEAHH PARK plans to work with many urban sports promotion partners to create six major urban sports categories, including pickleball, cycling, flag football, yoga, skateboarding and frisbee, and traditional categories, such as running, basketball, table tennis and tennis, and to create more diverse and innovative urban sports experience together with more partners.
In addition, KIC will continue to develop a series of programs under YEAHH PARK, have dialogues with “urban sports lifers” in the city through online and offline activities, host gatherings of urban sports communities, advocate environmental protection and public welfare in various forms of sports, encourage more sports lovers to bond with the city, send out signals of social values, launch the “Urban Outdoor” campaign and create a youthful lifestyle integrating different elements.
YEAHH PARK is not just a sports brand in the traditional sense or merely a store, but a community co-construction program and a content platform with unlimited potential. With more sports communities on board, it will create various new ways of fun and promote the urban sports culture with Jiangwan Sports Center at the core, so as to meet the growing needs of citizens in Yangpu District and even Shanghai for outdoor sports and a better life.
Community co-construction empowers the renewal of Jiangwan Sports Center
KIC has both innovative and youthful properties, as well as outstanding sports properties. Surrounded by institutions of higher education and community sports centers, it is also home to Jiangwan Sports Center, a century-old stadium that can accommodate more than 40,000 people.
Jiangwan Sports Center retains its simple and elegant historical features, and is on the list of the seventh batch of the 20th-Century Chinese Architectural Heritage projects. After more than 70 years of restoration and upgrading, it still carries urban sports culture and pursues new heights and possibilities.
“We hope that experienced sports lovers and ordinary citizens can walk out of their homes and offices, let go of anxiety and depression, and feel the connection between people in sports, and feel the beauty of nature. We’re not simply promoting a certain sport. We hope that through the delivery of sports lifestyles, we’ll bring together different people and strengths from different fields at Jiangwan Sports Center to jointly cultivate the growing urban sports culture,” said Wang Hong, project leader of KIC.
In addition, KIC, together with AECOM and Cushman & Wakefield, carried out business format positioning and planning for Jiangwan Sports Center. On the basis of Shanghai’s oldest sports venue, GKIC’s industry resources and KIC, it will strive to create a unique sports scenario in Yangpu District and even Shanghai with the goal of sustainable development of sports. In the future, Jiangwan Sports Center will attract more urban sports events and offer more trendy and relaxing fitness experience to citizens.
