Shanghai Center for Road Transport is active to implement the strategy of building China into a country with powerful transportation, promote the governance modernization with digital governance, and strive to build a “cloud road center”, covering four major areas: road facility management, transportation service management, safety dynamic supervision and static traffic supervision, and forming a “smart brain” of road transportation management.

As the digital twin demo project of Cloud Road Center, Yangpu Bridge is the first to empower smart supervision by using digital twin, so as to upgrade the modernization of road transport governance.
Observation based on digital twin reveals the intelligence of technologies
There are more than 50,000 static facilities and equipment space management units in the whole bridge, covering 2022 main tower pre-stressed tendons, 256 stay cables, 240 steel beams and various auxiliary equipment. Relying on the unique coding and fusion of various attribute information, technical archives information, management information and dynamic perception information in the whole life cycle of facilities and equipment, it has realized the evolution from space management unit to holographic digital unit.
Realize structural dynamic twin based on the neuronal sensory system
In order to master the digital signs of the facility, more than 1,100 structural safety data sensing points in 17 categories are arranged throughout the bridge to monitor the environmental data such as wind speed, wind direction, temperature and ground motion in real time, and monitor the structural state such as stress and strain, structural temperature, vibration, cable force, deformation and displacement of the bridge, and the annual monitoring data are more than 2TB.
There are more than 120 structural safety indexes in five categories in the whole bridge. All index points automatically match the 3D spatial position through digital twin coding, calculate the index score in real time through neuron intelligent analysis module, feed back the current index monitoring value of twin bridge in real time through threshold setting and red, yellow and green color management, and calculate and analyze the edge, so as to remind the bridge structure health status in real time.
Realize transport twin based on transport real-time perception system
In order to master the traffic digital signs of the bridge, the whole bridge is equipped with about 200 sets of traffic sensing devices in 10 categories, including video monitoring, dynamic weighing, meteorology, traffic flow detection and edge calculation and analysis, so as to grasp the actual operation of vehicles on the bridge deck in real time and automatically identify abnormal events on the bridge deck. The dynamic simulation software of vehicle model is used to realize the dynamic twin simulation of vehicles on the bridge, and keep the whole process tracking of operating vehicles that need attention, so as to provide an intuitive and efficient data support system for transportation management.
Management based on digital twin embodies governance via rules
Based on the dynamic and static digital twin, and relying on the online data sharing of “Cloud Road Center", a closed-loop management of “automatic perception and discovery, real-time automatic push and rapid collaborative disposal” is formed, so as to realize the transformation from experience judgment to data analysis, from passive disposal to active discovery, from the digital signs of urban operation “prevention”, and keep the “lifeline” of the city, so as to provide guarantee for safe travels of the people.
Lean management and online supervision of facility maintenance
The online maintenance supervision platform of Cloud Road Center realizes the online supervision of the whole process of daily management and maintenance of facilities. For example, in the daily routine maintenance inspection in January this year, a longitudinal crack with a length of 2.8m and a width of 0.2cm was found in the downstream lane No. 2 of the main bridge through the intelligent inspection equipment. Immediately, the order was automatically sent to the maintenance personnel to repair as fast as possible according to the maintenance arrangement. In the future, AR reality enhancement technology can be used to quickly and accurately complete a series of operations such as disease and defect location, reporting and review on site, so as to improve the refinement level of facility management and maintenance.
Real-time treatment in ban of vehicles transporting hazardous chemicals
When finding prohibitions and violations, the sensing device will push the license plate number, intrusion time, photos and other data of the prohibiting and violating vehicles to the “Cloud Road Center” digital supervision system for road transportation of hazardous goods within two seconds, and start the relevant management and disposal process in real time: first, it will push it to the traffic police and the law enforcement corps of the Municipal Transportation Commission for off-site law enforcement; second, it will strengthen the assessment of industrial enterprises by capturing the alarm response time and disposal efficiency data of prohibitions and violations; third, it will strengthen credit management for operators of hazardous chemicals.
United law enforcement and dynamic weighing of the overloaded vehicles
After receiving the real-time warning information of overloaded vehicles from the dynamic weighing system, the system immediately carries out twin marking and whole process monitoring and tracking of the overloaded vehicle, notifies the vehicle to leave the exit ramp immediately through the broadcast system on the bridge deck, warns the information of prohibition vehicles on the information board of the bridge gantry, and pushes the information of prohibition vehicles to the traffic police corps and the law enforcement corps of the Traffic Commission. For vehicles whose gross weight does not exceed the designed load, the law enforcement department shall impose off-site punishment; when the designed load is exceeded, the traffic police shall intercept it on site and jointly enforce the law with the law enforcement corps of the Transportation Commission.
Prevention based on digital twin, to explore efficient governance for whole life cycle
The state of real-time perception facilities, to realize safety evaluation
Digital twin integrates all-round basic data such as regular technical condition evaluation, structural health monitoring and pavement flatness, and realizes the real-time dynamic evaluation of the operation state of the bridge.
Analyze impact of overloaded transport on the real-time basis to make quick evaluation
When the overloaded vehicle exceeding the designed load crosses the bridge, it will automatically trigger the structural safety monitoring and disposal process to evaluate the impact of this overloaded transport on structural safety and pavement technical conditions, so as to provide evidence and basis for subsequent road damage claims, structural maintenance and off-site law enforcement.
Track emergence treatment in the full process to realize rapid response
Through the whole process tracking, guidance and supervision of the bridge emergency disposal, it assists the on-site rapid disposal to prevent the occurrence of major events affecting the safety of traffic and facilities. In low temperature, rain and snow weather, when the meteorological department issues a yellow warning, it starts the emergency response immediately. Based on the on-site real-time environment and structural temperature sensing data, it carries out the closed-loop management of emergency response preparation, automatic material matching, snow melting operation startup, vehicle safety prompt, and post detection review, etc.
