"No Distinction Amid Virus": Italian Soong Ching Ling Foundation Donates 25,000 Medical Masks to City Council of Rome July 01,2020
On a recent sunny morning, Jin Hui, Chairwoman of the Italian Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Honorary Chairwoman of the Yangpu Overseas Friendship Association; as well as foundation members including Li Jieqiong, Zhang Yafang and Liao Zhicheng came to the Civil Protection Agency of the City Council of Rome next to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations for the handover ceremony of 25,000 medical masks donated to the City Council of Rome.
Early in late February when COVID-19 was at its worst, while donating money and supplies to China, the foundation donated medical masks, protective suits, gloves and other anti-epidemic supplies to Tor Vergata General Hospital, Santo Spirito Hospital, Ordine degli Avvocati (Italian Supreme Court), CNA, Rome's government departments, Cerveteri and local residents (via Milan Branch), and employed all its Chinese and Italian interpersonal relations to provide resources to the anti-epidemic fight.
Virginia Raggi, Mayor of Rome, met Jin on many occasions. Learning another philanthropic act of the foundation, she announced the important news on the website of the city council and entrusted Carlo Cafarotti, Director of Economic Trade and Tourism to reply to Jin. She reiterated the importance of Italy-China friendship and thanked the Chinese community in Rome for their persistent support to the City Council of Rome.
Giovanni Savarese, Director of the Civil Protection Agency, hosted the handover ceremony. Luca Trifone, Diplomatic Advisor to the City Council of Rome, delivered a speech on behalf of the mayor fully recognizing the significance of the donation. Jin also delivered a speech. The two sides believed that the pandemic would be overcome as early as possible with the concerted efforts of the two countries and the rest of the world.
There is no distinction amid the virus. Guided by Ms. Soong Ching Ling's great theory of "charity beyond boundaries", the foundation has worked together with a number of domestic and foreign charity organizations and Chinese associations such as New Sunshine Charity Foundation-Kindle Blue Fund, Shanghai Culture & Tourism Development Co., Ltd. and Overseas Chinese Epidemic Emergency Team in Rome, and stayed together with the Italian people to guard the home for all.
