The conclusion of the agreement marks the establishment of the regional headquarters of another globally influential multinational corporation in Yangpu. Amcor China will further play its role in driving the development of drug and food packaging, pooling and attracting resources and talents, and improving innovation capacity. The two sides will forge a longstanding, all-round and deep strategic partnership, to promote the social and economic development of Yangpu and improve the level of regional industries.
On behalf of the CPC Yangpu District Committee and the Yangpu District People's Government, Xie warmly welcomed Amcor China to Yangpu for development. He noted that the cooperation is a vivid manifestation of the "upgraded results" of the 2nd China International Import Expo (CIIE 2019), as well as a concrete embodiment of implementing the spirit of the Municipal Conference on Business Environment Improvement and Investment Promotion, and the entry of Amcor China will open a new prospect for the all-round and win-win cooperation between the district and the enterprise. Yangpu will practically serve the enterprise, improve service accuracy and expand service coverage, to provide the best service and strongest support for its development in Yangpu, he said, hoping that Amcor China would continue to play its role as a world leading enterprise, take root and operate in Yangpu, forge a longstanding, all-round and deep strategic partnership with Yangpu, grow and achieve common prosperity with Yangpu.
As the world's largest consumer goods packaging company, Amcor plays a leading role in the packaging industry in China and the world. In the fiscal year 2018, it achieved total operating revenues of over 13.4 billion U.S. dollars. It has so far established 13 manufacturing bases (sole proprietorships) in North China, East China, South China and West China, with a total of over 4,000 employees and a total investment of over 2 billion U.S. dollars in China. China has gradually become an important market of Amcor.
During CIIE 2019, Yangpu's four leading bodies visited Amcor's booth, thus acquiring a deeper understanding of Amcor's upstream and downstream industry sectors, customer resources, future development plan and technical innovation. Amcor's innovation and pursuit of outstanding technologies and concept of environmental protection highly agree with Yangpu's direction of industrial development. The settlement of Amcor's regional headquarters in Yangpu, which will produce the overlapping effects of industrial agglomeration and economic contribution, is a key project that Yangpu needs to introduce. Through several rounds of negotiations, Amcor's regional headquarters finally settled in Yangpu.
In recent years, Yangpu has hold fast to the opportunity from Shanghai's persistent opening to the outside world, stuck to innovation drive, further promoted industrial transformation and level improvement, and kept developing the export-oriented economy, thus significantly improving in the degree of internationalization and growing in the number of regional headquarters and R&D centers of multinational corporations year by year. In 2019, 4 foreign R&D centers were established in Yangpu, ranking top in Shanghai; the headquarters of DRiV Asia Pacific, the headquarters of Lear Asia Pacific and the headquarters of ContiTech China were established and gone into operation in Yangpu successively. In 2019, Yangpu registered a record contractual foreign investment of 2.049 billion U.S. dollars and a record actual foreign investment of 1.038 billion U.S. dollars, up 104.35 percent and 127.63 percent year on year respectively, both ranking top in Shanghai.
