A Window to Learn More about the Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Yangpu District and A Good Place to Feel the Charm Brought by the Core Concept of “Three-district Linkage and Three-city Integration August 05,2019

Under the strong backing of the Party Committee and the government of Yangpu District, “GKIC Showroom”, sponsored by Shanghai Yangpu Technology & Innovation Group and located in No. 7 Building of KIC Plaza, was officially opened to the public on August 1 after intense construction for more than half a year.

Till now, GKIC Showroom has been renovated for four times. After renovation, it employs various cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, VR and interactive media, and integrates various art forms like pop art, pixel animation and LEGO builder to showcase the interactive ecosphere by setting up several themed zones such as “Time Boat”, “Three-city Notebook”, “KIC Texture” and “People’s Well-being” and through multiple dimensions of time, space, data, case and ecology. It is a window to learn more about the innovation and entrepreneurship in Yangpu District, and is also a good place to feel the charm brought by the core concept of “three-district linkage and three-city integration”.

The “Time Boat” tells the history and the present of GKIC. Roaming the long corridor of time, the history of efforts to establish universities, encourage industrial development and strengthen municipal administration made a hundred years ago comes into sight. The current developments of GKIC are wonderfully unfolded before visitors’ eyes through 3D pictures, video displaying and sound playing. Each year GKIC sees the births of more than 300 new enterprises, holds more than 1,000 innovation events, and is home to more than 70,000 highly intelligent people work, study and live. GKIC has become a “business card” to showcase that innovation is a banner held high by Yangpu District.

Three-city Notebook” gives a good illustration on GKIC’s core concept of “three-district linkage and three-city integration”. It uses nice-looking original paintings and cutting-edge interactive media technologies to display GKIC ecosphere in a comprehensive way. On the one hand, KIC’s core zone, University Road, Jiangwan Stadium, School of Management of Fudan University (Zhengli Campus), KIC Garden and other KIC landmarks are exactly reproduced as they are by pixel animation. On the other hand, KIC’s innovation factors are summarized into the following five aspects: college and university, service platform, maker space and international think tank. In GKIC ecosphere, well-known universities such as Fudan University, Tongji University and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, high-tech enterprises such as Lubansoft, eBao, IBM and Dell, international platforms such as MIT Industrial Liaison Program, San Francisco Bay Area Council, and California-China Office of Trade and Investment, innovation institutions such as Bay Area Accelerator, Tencent Public Space, InnoSpace, and Shanghai Penta Innovation & Entrepreneurship Institute are interconnected and interacted synergistically for mutual development.

In the business exhibition area, representative firms in the fields of AI, big data, WIT120 and design service, such as IBM, DELL, Splunk, Vm ware, AECOM, Fab-Union, WeDoctor and Distinguished Physician for Operation are gathered to showcase their latest achievements in smart city, digital fabrication, machine learning and many other high-tech fields. Visitors have a chance to experience amazing “cool techs” like manless driving, face recognition payment, telemedicine, large-scale 3D printing!

During the trial exhibition in the first three months, GKIC Showroom has attracted hundreds of visitors from overseas, from China, from Shanghai and from Yangpu District. GKIC Showroom presents us a microcosm of Yangpu District, a thriving land full of vigor and vitality in innovation and entrepreneurship.

“GKIC Function Zone” was rated as Shanghai Service Industry Innovation Demonstration Zone in November last year. The planning area covers the areas to the north of Guoding East Road, to the south of Yingao East Road, to the west of Guohe Road and to the east of Guoding Road, with a total area of about 6km2. At present, the Zone is home to more than 2,200 sci-tech enterprises, where approximately 70,000 people work, study and live, and gathers over 60 makerspace and incubators with different industrial functions and business models.
