In the new practice of the People's City, Yangpu Lifestyle Show Belt constantly sends "new wind," letting citizens and tourists "enjoy the city."
New Experiences Stimulate New Needs. What New Ways to Play are there in "Digital Yangpu"?
Sports Fever "Ignites" Consumption, Triggering "Integration Power"
My child was very interested after seeing it on TV, so I took the opportunity of summer vacation to bring him to experience it up close. Recently, Ms. Wang, a citizen, and her child watched a competition with great interest in the sunken plaza of KIC. Children's breakdance challenge, American football games, pickleball challenge, and other activities that combine viewing and interaction attracted a large number of citizens to stop and watch, creating a lively atmosphere on-site.
From Jiangwan Stadium to University Road temporary pedestrian street, with a total length of about 1.2 kilometers, this area, which already had a high concentration of innovation, has become even more "novel" and full of energy due to the landing of the 2024 Shanghai "Sports Promotion Week" and "YOUNG Pu Summer Night" sports consumption lifestyle festival.
This is the world's first skateboard replicated by our museum. In the 1950s, on the coast of Southern California, USA, local surfing enthusiasts made this skateboard to practice surfing on land. At that time, it was just a wooden board with two rows of roller skate iron wheels installed underneath. In the transparent exhibition hall, staff member Tian Jie is explaining an exhibit. On University Road, the "mobile museum" created by the Shanghai Sports Museum is a popular check-in spot. Here, citizens can learn about breakdancing, rock climbing, skateboarding, and freestyle BMX, the four newly added Olympic events, at zero distance.
Driven by the "Olympic fever," our district further promotes the deep integration of business, tourism, culture, and sports exhibitions, stimulating the enthusiasm for national fitness while injecting hot and boiling vitality into the consumer market.
Statistics show that since the beginning of this year, the search volume for "breakdancing" on Meituan has increased by 107.8% year-on-year, and the number of relevant note strategies has increased by 150%. In July, the search volume for sports increased by 180% compared to the same period in June, with male consumers accounting for 66%, and consumers aged 20-35 being the main force.
Recently, swimming and bicycle products in our store have been selling particularly well, said Yang Zhenyu, Operations Manager of Decathlon (Wujiaochang Store). "On weekends, customer traffic in our store increased by about 6% compared to the previous week."
During the event, well-known Shanghai brands such as Warrior, Bright Dairy, and Orient Shopping set up on-site. Meituan and ICBC Shanghai Branch launched a sports-themed payment discount activity, and our district continued to issue sports consumption vouchers. According to the latest statistics, on the two days of the weekend, customer traffic at The NEXT reached nearly 80,000 person-times, an increase of 18.6% compared to the daily average on weekdays. Customer traffic on University Road on the two days of the weekend was about 47,000 person-times, an increase of 36% compared to the daily average on weekdays.
The 1.2-kilometer stretch has become a window for our district to vividly interpret the concept of "tourism following events." In the future, our district will continue to promote the prosperous development of the sports consumption market and contribute to the construction of Shanghai as a globally renowned sports city.
As night falls, there are quite a few citizens waiting outside The Story of Chuaner Experience Store (University Road Store). The person in charge, Long Junliang, was surprised to see his junior high school math teacher among the crowd. "On the temporary pedestrian street of University Road, the pedestrian flow is relatively high on weekends, but in the past, it was mainly surrounding residents." After the recent professional sports events, Long Junliang found that more and more diners came from other districts. Most of them were sports enthusiasts who would dine and rest in the surrounding area after participating in an activity. "New experiences stimulate new needs. We hope to have more and more such 'ways to play' to help the catering industry steadily recover."
Service Consumption Promotion Alliance Established, "Enjoy the City" Has an "Exploration Plan"
Today, our district is committed to promoting tourism through culture, boosting business through sports, fostering culture through business, advancing the joint development of business, tourism, culture, and sports exhibitions, promoting the joint development of commodities and services, and integrating brands and scenarios.
According to the introduction, from August to December, our district will launch more than 100 business, tourism, culture, and sports activities, with 51 key activities. The College Student Tourism Festival and National Fitness Week will be further upgraded based on existing experience. The District Cultural Art Center and Dunhuang Contemporary Art Museum will open. The "Listen to the Yangtze River Tides" music series and Riverside International Beer Festival will be held for the first time. "GOGO GOODS," "MINISO × Bear Worm," and other first releases and first exhibitions will take place.
The District Propaganda Department, District Commerce Commission, District Culture and Tourism Bureau, District Sports Bureau, and other departments have jointly established the Service Consumption Promotion Alliance with leading Internet enterprises and commercial complexes, launching the "Enjoy the City Exploration Plan," focusing on three parts: three enjoyable activities—"enjoy travel," "enjoy shopping," and "enjoy sports"; three major guides—check-in maps of Wujiaochang, Yangpu Riverside, and Kongjiang Road blocks; three actions—establishing alliances, innovating scenarios, and providing excellent benefits.
On the one hand, by strengthening collaboration with the government, associations, and enterprises, it builds an online and offline accelerated integration and mutually beneficial platform, expands the "circle of friends" for business, tourism, culture, and sports, and forms a distinctive, complementary, and resource-sharing integrated development system for business, tourism, culture, and sports. On the other hand, it explores more of Yangpu's "treasure" resources and provides citizens and tourists with more consumption and entertainment scenarios, creating a new city charm card.
15 Minutes, Both "Seasonal Limited Editions" and "Evergreen All-Year-Round Options"
Enrollment "Sold Out" in Seconds; the Second Phase of the Caring Summer School Program Allows More Children to Enjoy the Summer Vacation
At around 7 a.m., volunteers at the Xinjiangwancheng Sub-district summer school program arrived early to "take up their posts," waiting for the arrival of parents and children. Bao Huiying, a preschool education major student from Shanghai International Studies University, was among them. Last year, she participated in the Xinjiangwancheng Sub-district winter school program as a volunteer. This year, she signed up for two consecutive phases of summer school volunteer service work. After the second phase of the Yangpu District Primary School Students Caring Summer School Program started, Bao Huiying became the class director of Class 3 in the second phase of the Xinjiangwancheng Sub-district summer school program.
With previous experience, Bao Huiying was more fully prepared this time. She said, "For example, when school ends, we will communicate with parents in advance in the group, organize the children to pack their schoolbags in advance and wait in the air-conditioned hall, reducing their waiting time in high temperatures."
Shen Mingzhu, a staff member of the Xinjiangwancheng Sub-district Youth League Committee, introduced that the sub-district's second phase of the summer school program recruited 63 trainees and set up 3 classes based on grades, with volunteers allocated in a 1:5 ratio for each class. Even so, the summer school program was still in short supply. "On the day of open enrollment, it was almost fully booked in 1 second."
It is understood that as the only grassroots legislation "dual contact point" of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress and the Shanghai Municipal Government, Xinjiangwancheng Sub-district has always been committed to carrying out various online and offline publicity and legal education activities. The first phase of the "dual contact point" extended the tentacles of legal publicity to the caring summer school program, launching the "Xinxin Law Academy" legal publicity four lectures, which were well-received by parents. In the second phase, based on this, more diverse courses were introduced, such as "Fire Extinguishing and Escape Knowledge Lecture," "Recitation of Ancient Poems and Songs in 'National Style Elegance,'" "How Chinese Animation 'Goes Viral'—The Journey of 'Two Creations' Thought and Cultural Animation Inheritance," and more.
In addition, this year's caring summer school program brings together the forces of district enterprises, college students, and enthusiastic people from all walks of life, comprehensively improving service quality in terms of teacher resources, health and safety, food safety, activity delivery, and other aspects, while alleviating the difficulty of "looking after children." It also builds a platform for children to broaden their knowledge and communicate with peers, making their summer life more fulfilling and joyful.
"Generally, when they first come in the first week, everyone doesn't talk, but by the third week, they will play together and even add each other on WeChat, agreeing to go out and play together after the program ends," said Qin Ruiyuan, the volunteer team leader.
Community Reading Network Adds New Members, "Netting" More Residents' Reading Needs
Compared to the "seasonal" nature of the caring summer school program, the "Reading Season" series of activities recently launched by Xinjiangwancheng Sub-district belongs to the "evergreen all-year-round options."
The "Reading Season" includes four cultural-themed activities: the "Voice of the New City" audio reading activity, the "Book Recitation in the New City" classic recitation activity, the "Book Fragrance in the New City" poetry and idiom conference, and the "Beauty in the New City" art exhibition, which deeply promote reading for all and enhance residents' enthusiasm for reading and cultural literacy, improving the cultural quality of the community.
The annual Shanghai Book Fair has arrived as scheduled, and the construction of a book-loving society continues to deepen. Book lovers continue to "read" the beauty in countless encounters with books. On the day the "Reading Season" series of activities was launched, Xinjiangwancheng Sub-district Library, Xueyue Fengyong Book Club, Yanlord Yiting Residents Study Point Reading Room, and the District Songhu Fire and Rescue Station were awarded the title of "People's City·Reading Station," further improving the community reading network and making richer reading resources "at the fingertips" of residents.
The relevant person in charge of Xinjiangwancheng Sub-district introduced that over the years, the sub-district has used the unique brand of "New City Culture Four Seasons" as a starting point, focusing on the construction of "15-minute community life circle," continuously enhancing the soft power of community culture, and making every effort to build a harmonious community of co-governance, co-construction, and sharing. This "Reading Season" series of activities has a positive role in further promoting the exchange and integration of communities, parks, commercial districts, camps, and school districts. "In the future, the sub-district will continue to promote the construction of community culture brands, let the achievements of cultural construction benefit residents' lives, and enhance residents' sense of gain, happiness, and belonging."
