The "May Day" holiday saw Yangpu's cultural and tourism market sizzle with activity. The Yangpu Culture and Tourism Administration (YCTA) earnestly implemented the city and district's holiday work plans. Through elaborate planning and coordination, it balanced work safety with market vitality, offering a rich array of cultural and tourism products and events. Travel enthusiasm among the public surged, and the cultural and tourism market was safe, stable, and brimming with holiday spirit.

Daxue Road Municipal Tourism and Leisure Block

During the May Day holiday, the 3rd KIC Knowledge and Art Festival brought Daxue Road to life. With "knowledge, art, and life" at its core, the festival created a captivating urban cultural experience, drawing over 400,000 visitors.

More than 40 cultural events spanned a range of topics, from reading and sustainability to art and AI: to bring environmental theater to life, turning the space under camphor trees into open stages; MeetU Lab and Yunnan's "Shi Guang Poetry" showcased heartfelt poems by mountain kids, while the College of Design and Innovation, Tongji University brightened the scene with "Poetry Canopy". The Silent Disco City Tour connected to Jiangwan Stadium, and Fujifilm Experience Store crafted regenerated art from waste plastics. But the real standout was the "Daxue Road Cultural Feast", which features 12 creative Yunnan dishes paired with a shared dining and reading experience led by Fudan and Tongji scholars. People sat together at candlelit tables, savoring delicious food and talking about books, experiencing the special mix of street fun and literary coziness on the pedestrian street. This boundary-breaking knowledge feast highlighted Daxue Road's innovative "community without boundaries" once more.

Between May 1 and 5, the four major attractions welcomed a total of 404,660 visitors, marking a 12.71% year-on-year increase from the previous year. The breakdown is as follows: Shanghai Gongqing Forest Park attracted 186,000 visitors, Huangxing Park drew 78,000 visitors, and Shanghai Fashion Center hosted 139,100 visitors. Throughout the holiday, these attractions were thronged with visitors, and the array of activities was both vibrant and varied.

50 sampled hotels in Yangpu registered a total of 29,411 check-ins from May 1 to 5, representing a 27.67% increase from the same period in 2024. The average room occupancy reached 67.67%, climbing 5.01% year-over-year.

Cultural and Tourism Events

Throughout the May Day holiday, Yangpu's public cultural venues welcomed 35,429 visitors, a 65.99% year-on-year rise from the previous year, as they continued to offer free access. These venues bolstered safety measures and the oversight of temporary events, ensuring smooth and secure operations.

Public cultural venues enriched the holiday cultural life of citizens. Yangpu Library hosted a bookbinding design exhibition called "Books in Splendor". The Yangpu Culture Center organized a variety of events, such as the "Artisan Heart" ICH Handicraft Workshop in Porcelain Painting, the "Solar Terms, Timeless Crafts: Yangpu ICH x Commerce" - Filigree Enamel Workshop to Celebrate "Beginning of Summer", and the 7th Shanghai Women's Calligraphy & Seal Carving Exhibition (Yangpu Tour).

Sub-district community culture centers hosted a range of themed events online and offline. Highlights included the "Magnolia Blossoms, National Unity, and Festive Melodies" Art Performance in Changbai Xincun Sub-district, the 2025 Yangpu ICH: Fang's Egg Carving Exhibition in Jiangpu Road Sub-district, and A Century of Shanghai-Style Seal Carving: Masterpieces by Leading Artists Exhibition at the Community Culture Center of Changhai Road Sub-district. These events were part of the vibrant community cultural scene. Alongside the holiday activities, public cultural venues enhanced dynamic management and prioritized the safety of participants.

During the "May Day" holiday, the National Anthem Gallery hosted a series of red-themed educational activities. These events, featuring immersive experiences and interactive elements, inspired young people and the public to carry forward the revolutionary spirit and strengthen their sense of patriotism. The venue welcomed over 3,000 visitors and organized eight community education sessions. Inspiring patriotism through a ceremony and performance: On Labor Day, a "Resounding National Anthem" flag-raising ceremony was conducted jointly with the national flag guard of the Yangpu Fire Rescue Bureau. This solemn event aimed to ignite patriotic fervor and uplift the spirit of the national anthem through a dignified ceremony. The "Singing for the Country" event blended youthful performance art with revolutionary culture, creating an immersive music experience that provided a special holiday encounter with ideological education. Using technology to trace the origins and passing on the torch through research: Through the "Singing for the Country" AR experience camp, participants could journey back to 1935, where they could personally play the first recording of the March of the Volunteers, diving into the passionate history behind the creation of the national anthem. Tailored for primary and secondary school students, the "Soul Shaping" study tour courses blended interactive quizzes and museum exploration to create an immersive experience in red cultural education. Aligned with the "May Day" theme, the "Red Memories" handicraft event allowed young participants to express their sincere blessings through the art of traditional Chinese painting.

Scenic areas organized a variety of events to enhance the holiday atmosphere. Shanghai Gongqing Forest Park hosted the 24th Urban Forest Flower Exhibition from March 30 to May 5, with the theme "Celebrating Spring Flowers, Embracing a Better Life". This event displayed a wide range of flowers, highlighting their colors, scents, shapes, and cultivation skills, along with artistic horticultural techniques. It offered visitors with a delightful experience of the forest's natural beauty and the healing touch of nature.

The Shanghai Fashion Center rolled out its "Love Shopping, Love Traveling" campaign from April 25 to May 11. Shoppers who spent over 1,000 yuan entered a lucky draw for a chance to win a gold piglet charm bracelet. During the May Day holiday, enthusiasts pre-registered for the Shanghai Petjoy Championships - Paw Carnival in an ACNG scene. The center also offered flash sales of group buy vouchers that can be stacked with Yangpu consumption vouchers for extra savings. Other highlights included lucky draws for gifts when you spend a certain amount; and relaxation with a riverside lawn movie.

From May 1 to 30, the Royal Workshop of Chinese Brush and Ink hosts he "Scholarly Craftsmen" independent camp for kids aged 6 to 14. The camp offers a unique experience where children can tour the production facilities of the Four Treasures of the Study and witness the intricate craftsmanship behind these traditional treasures.
