Brazilian Innovators Make Splash at CIIE, with Yangpu as Vital Hub for China-Brazil Collaboration November 07,2025
On November 6, the Innovation Incubation Section at the North Hall of the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) was energized by a burst of Brazilian innovation. A grand opening ceremony was hosted by the Brazilian Innovation Pavilion, organized by the Consulate General of Brazil in Shanghai and the Brazil Center (Centro do Brasil). The cooperation signings and ribbon-cutting ceremony stole the show, symbolizing Brazil's cutting-edge technology on the CIIE stage and underscoring Yangpu's role as a vital "bridgehead" for China-Brazil innovation. This event showcased the fruitful collaboration between the two sides, anchored by Yangpu.
Brazil, a powerhouse in Latin America, is driving science, technology, and innovation as key drivers of economic growth and sustainability. It plays a crucial role in global events, including hosting the BRICS Summit and preparing for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30).

The opening ceremony of the Brazil Innovation Pavilion was vibrant and energetic. Ambassador Augusto Pestana, Consul General of Brazil in Shanghai; Wang Hao, Deputy Head of Yangpu District, and prominent figures from the Chinese and Brazilian political and business circles cut the ribbon. As the ribbons dropped, the comprehensive exhibition area was officially launched.

The delegation boasted a powerful lineup, including Serpro, the world's largest public information technology company; Suzano, a global leader in pulp production; UFRJ Science Park, a top academic hub; Daniel Law, a renowned law firm; and Órbita, a smart city solutions provider. These institutions highlighted Brazil's robust strengths in digital transformation, bioeconomy, smart cities, and intellectual property protection.

Prior to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, in the presence of Ambassador Augusto Pestana and Deputy Head Wang Hao, the Investment Promotion Bureau of Santa Catarina and the Brazil Center officially signed a cooperation memorandum to establish a presence in Yangpu.
Santa Catarina, a key center for technology and industry in Brazil, is home to a leading startup ecosystem and robust industrial framework. This agreement marks the state's intention to use Yangpu's strategic location and the Brazil Center's platform to establish its official representative office in China.
Director Lacerda outlined the plans for the representative office's establishment and conveyed confidence in using Yangpu as a base to extend its influence across China.
Pablo Machado, Global Executive Vice-President for China Business and Strategy at Suzano, recounted his company's journey with the CIIE. He conveyed deep confidence in China's market and dynamic innovation ecosystem, and expressed optimism that the Brazil Center will help the Brazil Innovation Pavilion achieve great success.

This afternoon, the Brazil Innovation Pavilion will hold a cooperation briefing at the CIIE Press Center. Ambassador Augusto Pestana will review the key highlights of the 2025 China-Brazil Innovation Week. Lucas Lima, Deputy Consul General of Brazil in Shanghai and Head of the Science, Technology, and Innovation Sector, will outline the plan for the 2026 edition. Meanwhile, a representative from the Investment Promotion Agency of Mato Grosso will announce the opening of their Asia office at the Brazil Center in Yangpu and reveal their 2026 development plan.
