To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Brazil, respond to the seventh meeting of the Brazil-China High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee, and promote the all-round innovative development of Sino-Brazilian economic, trade and investment cooperation in the new era, under the guidance of the Ministry of Commerce of China, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services of Brazil, and the Office of the Vice President of Brazil, with the strong support of the Chinese Embassy in Brazil, the Brazilian Embassy in China and the China-Brazil Business Council, the Brazil-China Business Seminar, co-hosted by the China Council for International Investment Promotion and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), took place in Beijing on June 5.

As a significant outcome of this seminar, in the presence of Geraldo Alckmin, Vice President of the Federative Republic of Brazil and Rui Costa, Chief of Staff of the Presidency of Brazil, Ni Bing, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Yangpu District Committee and Executive Deputy Head of Yangpu District, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Jorge Viana, President of ApexBrasil.

Looking ahead, the Yangpu District People's Government and ApexBrasil will jointly build the first Brazilian Center in Asia, which is designed to serve as a comprehensive service platform for Brazilian companies entering the Chinese market and for Chinese companies expanding into Brazil. With focus on key sectors such as green and low carbon, bio-economy, sustainable agricultural technology and the digital economy, the two sides will jointly organize business and innovation activities. They will work together to deepen and expand bilateral economic and trade cooperation and technological innovation exchange projects, using the China International Import Expo (CIIE) as a platform to facilitate connections between Brazilian exhibitors and the Chinese market.

In his address, Ni said that this year coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Brazil. The contract signing and establishment of the Brazilian Center marks a significant milestone in deepening cooperation, bringing Yangpu more opportunities for in-depth cooperation with Brazil and Latin America. He hoped that the two parties will maintain close contact, deepen practical cooperation, and strengthen resource sharing in fields such as economic trade, technological innovation and cultural exchange, in a joint bid to write a new chapter of innovative development.

Viana said that the Brazilian Center project is a priority for ApexBrasil. The partnership with the Yangpu District People's Government will pave the way for Brazilian companies into the Chinese market, offering broader business prospects and creating new channels of cooperation and investment for Chinese companies to explore the Brazilian market. He expected the center to become a vital bridge for Sino-Brazilian cooperation over the next 50 years.

As one of the core areas of Shanghai, Yangpu has been committed to promoting friendly exchanges and cooperation with Brazil, establishing close cooperative relations with the Brazilian Consulate General in Shanghai and ApexBrasil. Thanks to the unwavering support from the CPC Yangpu District Committee and the Yangpu District People's Government, the China-Brazil Innovation Week has been successfully held in Yangpu for three consecutive years. In 2022, Yangpu supported Brazil in setting up a technological innovation trade delegation for the 6th CIIE. In August 2023, during the International Cooperation Forum on Green Transition, several Brazilian companies signed to move in Changyang Campus. In September 2023, the 4th China-Brazil Innovation Week was jointly launched by high-level representatives from both sides at the Pujiang Innovation Forum. The Brazilian National Pavilion showcased Brazil's innovation achievements and technical needs at the subsequent Global Technology Transfer Fair. During the 6th CIIE in November 2023, more than 50 Brazilian companies visited Yangpu, and a dozen Brazilian sci-tech innovation companies participated in the exhibition. In March 2024, led by José Roberto, Deputy Consul General of Brazil in Shanghai, the Brazilian delegation had an in-depth discussion with Xue Kan, Secretary of the CPC Yangpu District Committee on deepening cooperation, to fully support the development of Brazilian companies in Yangpu.

The signing of this MOU signifies a significant step forward in Yangpu's economic, trade and investment cooperation with Brazil. It not only shows the firm determination of both sides to strengthen cooperation and seek common development, but also lays a solid foundation for cooperation in a broader range. It is expected that the two sides will work together to create a better future.
