Tech-Infused Citywalk at Yangpu Riverside November 11,2025

As autumn deepens, Yangpu Riverside hosted a unique urban walking event. Recently, a citywalk themed "Skills without Boundaries" took place here, integrating skill culture into the urban fabric for the first time and creating a dynamic "skill landscape".

Organized by the WorldSkills Museum and the Yangpu Human Resources and Social Security Bureau (YHRSSB), the event saw participants embark from the WorldSkills Museum. They strolled along the riverside trail, passing landmarks like Green Hill, Fisherman's Wharf, and Yangshupu Waterworks, each carrying a rich historical legacy.

These industrial relics, scarred by time, have seen the rise and fall of Shanghai's industrial era. They now shine anew as Yangpu transitions from an "industrial belt" to a "life belt". Walking here, visitors can immerse themselves in the rich legacy of industrial history while also sensing the dynamic evolution of skills in modern times.

A highlight of the event was a group of "sci-fi pioneers" equipped with exoskeleton robots. Representatives from the WorldSkills International, WorldSkills champions, and skill masters explored the riverside with the help of smart devices, drawing curious onlookers and creating a buzz among locals.

We discovered that the VIATRIX exoskeleton robots were contributed by ULS Robotics Technology Co., Ltd., a donor to the WorldSkills Museum. The waist exoskeleton robots donated by the company are now featured in the museum's temporary exhibition "AI: The Skill to Open a New World".

Xie Huixuan, Skills Dream Ambassador for the WorldSkills Shanghai, expressed his feelings: "In my regular work, I interact with industrial robots on the production line, which excel in precision and efficiency. But this experience with the exoskeleton robots has made me truly feel the unique charm of 'human-machine collaboration'. Technology is not just for production; it can also significantly improve our daily lives."

In preparation for the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai in 2026, the event included several interactive check-in points with WorldSkills themes. The mascots "Nengneng" and "Qiaoqiao" made a surprise debut, drawing crowds eager to snap photos. Participants also engaged in knowledge quizzes along the route to collect special stamps, which they could exchange for exquisite cultural gifts, all while learning about skills in a fun and relaxed setting.

This event, blending technology, skill sharing, and urban exploration, brilliantly embodies the idea of "Skills without Boundaries". It also marks a successful collaborative effort between the WorldSkills Museum and YHRSSB.

"We aim to transcend traditional exhibition approaches, bringing skill culture from the museum into urban public spaces. By doing so, we can introduce skills into the city's heartbeat and citizens' daily lives more seamlessly," a spokesperson for the WorldSkills Museum explained.

Going forward, Yangpu will leverage this event to further merge skill culture with urban development. We will maximize local resources and tech strengths to pioneer new display methods. This will not only build momentum for the Shanghai WorldSkills 2026 but also enrich the "life belt" with deeper skill-related significance.
