Immersing in Story of Riverside: Yinhang Organizes Citywalk for International Volunteer Day December 05,2024
Yangpu Riverside is a cradle of modern industry and municipal works in Shanghai and China, a pivotal site for Chinese worker movements, as well as a sample of the people's city concept. As this year marks the 5th anniversary of the people's city concept, to thoroughly implement the important concept that "The city built by the people should serve the people", on the occasion of the 39th International Volunteer Day, the Yinhang Community Volunteer Service Center organized a citywalk along Yangpu Riverside. This event invited key volunteers and new workforce participants to discover the historical and cultural charm of Yangpu Riverside, reflecting on the profound significance of the people's city concept.
The journey commenced at the Yangshupu Station at Qinhuangdao Road, with the theme "Red Voyage". Interactive experiences like sand sculpture prints and riverfront photography postcards brought to life the historical moments of the work-study movement in France a century ago. At the former site of Huangpu Terminal, the participants visited the "Origin of Aspiration" exhibition hall and paused to appreciate the relief wall commemorating the work-study movement, reflecting on the storied past.
The group then proceeded to the former site of the wool & flax warehouse. As a mark of China's national industry in Yangshupu Road, the renovated warehouse is now more like an artwork and a beautiful sight along the Huangpu River. Adjacent to it, the former site of New Engineering & Shipbuilding Works, one of Shanghai's most ancient docks, has witnessed the development of China's modern shipbuilding industry and is poised to become the Yangtze River Estuary No. 2 Ancient Ship Museum.
Following the footsteps of the staff, the group moved east along the riverfront, passing by the wooden walkway of Yangshupu Waterworks, a site that embodies the profound principle that "The city built by the people should serve the people" and has become a sought-after photo spot for visitors.
The event ended at the Oriental Fisherman's Wharf, once the bustling Shanghai Fish Market. It has now transformed into a multifaceted complex that includes dining, leisure, entertainment, and office spaces, adding a vibrant touch to Yangpu Riverside. Throughout the journey, the riverfront's picturesque views were a feast for the eyes, with the winter sun casting a warm glow over the river's shimmering surface, lifting spirits and providing a sense of serenity. Strolling leisurely, the participants reveled in the scenery and the unique industrial legacy that lines the riverfront.
This event offered the participants a deep immersion in Yangpu's century-old industrial history and red culture, as well as a profound understanding of the essence of a people's city. Moving forward, the Yinhang Community Volunteer Service Center will continue to uphold the concept that "the people's city is built by the people and for the people", aiming to diversify volunteer services and enhance the well-being and satisfaction of community residents.
