To draw a successful close to the children's summer vacation, the Shangjing Garden Neighborhood Center in New Jiangwan City Sub-district recently organized an engaging citywalk across Yangpu. The children visited the Military Exhibition Hall and Yangpu Riverside, immersing themselves in the historical moments of Yangpu's storied past and witnessing its brilliant transformation under the people's city concept.

At the first leg - Military Exhibition Hall, guided by the docent's soft voice, the children felt as if they had stepped into a river of history. The hall is a treasure trove of historical relics, including red landmarks and items donated by veterans, such as military medals, canteens, certificates and uniforms.

Each item on display is a silent narrator of the past's glorious struggles. Shuo Shuo, a kid, was most impressed by the black and white photos of the Korean War, which are symbols of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army's tenacious struggles and a source of pride for Chinese soldiers.

The second leg of the citywalk took the children to Yangpu Riverside, where they saw the dramatic changes inspired by the people's city concept.

On November 2, 2019, General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed the important concept that "the people's city built by the people should serve the people" during a visit to Yangpu Riverside. Over the past five years, the area has seen significant changes, with Yangpu undergoing a brilliant transformation. Yangpu Riverside was home to numerous industrial enterprises like Jiangnan Shipyard and Shanghai No. 1 Pharmaceutical Factory, each etching their own illustrious legacies into the area's narrative.

The industrial relics of the past now harmoniously blend with modern landscape design, creating an unparalleled riverside beauty. Si Yang, another kid, highlighted new fashionable landmarks in Yangpu, such as Jiangwanli in New Jiangwan City Sub-district, Daxue Road in Wujiaochang Sub-district and B·Link in Daqiao Sub-district, as testaments to Yangpu's brilliant transformation.

Cao Zhenhao, a head of the neighborhood center, said that a people's city is one built by the people and serving the people. Through this event, the children have not only acquired knowledge, but also deeply experienced the essence of a people's city. With this understanding, they will grow into responsible youth of the new era, contributing to the building of an even better city for the people.
