Building Line of Safety: Kongjiang Neighborhood Citywalk Shows Good Community Life April 19,2024

Different characters of communities give residents unique feelings and experiences. Through a slow citywalk, Kongjiang Neighbor Night Club called on community residents to learn about the development and changes, history and culture, governance and innovation of communities, helping to build safe, livable and harmonious communities with the openness and inclusiveness of neighborhoods.

Recently, Kongjiang Neighborhood Night Club and Erlian Primary School, together with Xinhui Residential Area and Lane 107 Residential Area, planned and organized the 1st "Kongjiang Neighborhood Citywalk" - Safety Advocacy Campaign themed by "Safe Community for Good Life". Led by a school counselor, some 30 students from Erlian Primary School participated in this activity. Through a safety lecture, community visits, safety map drawing and formulation of a safety convention, the students familiarized themselves with communities, raised their awareness of public safety, and engaged in community governance.

Safety knowledge

At the safety lecture, the volunteers from Kongjiang Neighbor Night Club tested the "safety value" of the students through a "Safety Magnifying Glass" quiz, to find out their safety loopholes. Then, Gu Feng, an expert from the Shanghai Safety Association, shared common safety knowledge and emergency disposal skills in simple terms, benefiting the students a lot.

Safety visits

Then, the students visited the communities of Jinyu Residence and Jiuzhou Garden. Led by the volunteers of Kongjiang Neighbor Night Club, carefully inspected the potential safety hazards of the communities like "detectives", such as whether traffic safety signs were clear, whether charging facilities for electric two-wheelers were complete, and whether there were warnings in dangerous areas. In the community space familiar to them, the students searched for possible safety hazards with their innocent but keen eyes, and came up with wonderful ideas such as standardizing parking to clear community passages and practicing the community volunteer safety officer system.

Safety map & convention

The most innovative part of this activity was "community safety mapping", in which the students incorporated found problems and improvement schemes into the map under the guidance of the teacher, achieving valuable visual results of community safety. This map, drawn from the perspective of young students, not only showed their deep love for beautiful Kongjiang and enhanced their sense of responsibility for community safety, but also provided a valuable reference for the future governance planning of communities.

At last, directed by the teacher, the students and the volunteers jointly formulated a community safety convention: do not charge with flying wires, do not smoke at home, do not park on the life passage, learn to use a fire extinguisher…Each behavioral norm in the convention is closely related to community safety and community governance, and is also the result of the students' practice and active thinking.
