New Way to Spread Health Knowledge: Health Walk at Obstetrics & Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University April 19,2024

The National Cancer Prevention and Control Awareness Week runs from April 15 to 21 every year. To spread the knowledge of cancer prevention and control, the Obstetrics & Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University (Shanghai Red House Obstetrics & Gynecology Hospital) organized a health walk on April 17 in the outpatient building of its Yangpu branch. In the activity, patients could walk as they learned about the knowledge of cancers, opening a door to the hospital in a new way.

10+ health check points make the walk more interesting

Does HPV infection necessarily lead to cervical cancer? Can I just get over menstrual irregularities and disorders without going to hospital? What is the role of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in treating female cancers?  To spread the knowledge of tertiary prevention of common female cancers, the hospital set up a health check point in each of the five areas from the first floor to the fourth floor of the outpatient building.

Ring toss, rope skipping, nametag ripping…each game was designed with the knowledge of tertiary prevention related to disease prevention, high risk screening, and standardized diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The participants were itching for a try before the activity, and kept health knowledge in mind as they collected stamps from the check points and played the games during the walk. In addition to the interactive games, the hospital also offered featured experiences such as ear acupoint pressing with beans, to spread the health culture of Shanghai-style TCM and advocate healthy lifestyle, starting a journey of health for the public to fight and prevent cancer.

20+ health experts make the walk more informative

During the activity, medical experts at gynecologic oncology and breast surgery provided face-to-face health counseling and health management services at the check points, to help the participants identify potential health problems in time, and to create a green channel for those in need of further diagnosis and treatment.

Online, the hospital gave six livestreaming lectures on female cancers. The health experts from "Red House" communicated with viewers live as "stars of science popularization". "To offer the knowledge of female cancers, including the truth of occurrence, the way of prevention, the method of early diagnosis and treatment, and the progress of treatment, based on our the hospital's 140 years of professional advantage, we hope to open the hospital in a new way to fulfill our social responsibility," said Jiang Hua, President of the Obstetrics & Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University.
