Nurturing Hearts with Culture: Yangpu's International Cultural Exchange as Bridge to World April 25,2025
As the spring breeze gently blows and brings life to all things, Yangpu District has been using culture to foster connections and understanding. Through a series of dynamic and innovative "cultural feasts", we are linking international exchanges in dynamic and creative ways.
From the cross-border cultural journey of "Discover Fun in Yangpu" to the captivating performances at Theatre YOUNG, and to the festive atmosphere of the Shanghai · Show Bund German Beer Festival, Yangpu is leveraging its unique cultural appeal to bridge cultural divides and foster global connections.
Breaking Geographic Barriers for International Cultural Exchange
Theatre YOUNG's 2025 spring and summer performance season, themed "Right Here", brings together creators from diverse cultural backgrounds through six thematic sections, fostering connections with audiences.
The "Body, Object, and Landscape Studies" section stands out as a highlight. Theatre troupes from Europe and across the world converge in Yangpu to present their distinctive philosophies of body and aesthetics of objects. Highlights include the German Rimini Protokoll's Uncanny Valley that explores AI and robots, the Peruvian kitchen theatre Eating Myself, the British musical physical theatre Birth, and the Sino-German collaborative documentary theatre Dear Mum, I Want to Tell You.
Last autumn, the Shanghai · Show Bund German Beer Festival emerged as a vibrant platform for Sino-German cultural exchanges. With its array of German craft beers, delectable cuisine, lively music, and captivating light shows, the festival delivered a multi-sensory experience for both domestic and international visitors. Unique activities like the Car Trunk Market and the People's Market not only fostered cultural interactions but also spurred the integration of digital innovation and creativity.
Bridging Cultures through Traditional Experiences
Foreign-funded and foreign trade enterprises are a vital part of Yangpu's economy. As "foreigners" immerse themselves in the district, the interaction between their own cultures and traditional Chinese culture often sparks fascinating exchanges and deepens emotional connections.
Hosted by the Yangpu Culture and Tourism Administration (Yangpu Cultural Heritage Administration), supported by the Yangpu Culture and Tourism Administration (Yangpu Cultural Heritage Administration), this year's "Discover Fun in Yangpu" event officially kicked off. The event brought together international students, foreign families, and executives from foreign-funded enterprises to join a cultural adventure that spans thousands of years. The participants explored the history of ancient books at the China Modern Press and Publication Museum, immersed themselves in the art of Dunhuang incense plaque making at the Dunhuang Contemporary Art Museum, discovered the allure of Tang Dynasty snacks at Changyang Campus, and delved into the rich cultural heritage of Yangpu at Youku Art Park.
These activities brought foreign friends face-to-face with the depth and richness of Chinese culture, forging deep emotional connections in the process. Ekaterina Pushkarenko, a Russian student at Tongji University, shared her experience: when she visited the China Modern Press and Publication Museum, she felt transported to an ancient grotto, where she was captivated by the allure of traditional Chinese art.
The Spring of Culture Fosters an Atmosphere of Friendship
By welcoming performances from troupes like German's Rimini Protokoll, Yangpu is extending a warm and inclusive invitation to artists and audiences from across the globe, infusing new energy into its local economy.
This is a truly open cultural endeavor. Much like the gentle spring breeze that nourishes the earth, Yangpu's cultural initiatives are enriching hearts and minds. The district's cultural events are not just a feast for the eyes and spirit of residents and visitors but also an invisible bridge that connects China with the world, fostering mutual understanding and contributing to the vision of a shared future for humanity.
Moving forward, Yangpu will keep leveraging culture and art as powerful mediums to engage in meaningful dialogue with the international community.
