Recently, District Party Secretary Xue Kan met separately with Brazilian Deputy Consul General in Shanghai, Fan Tianyang, and the Chairman of Shanghai Japanese Commerce & Industry Club, Kan Masahiko, to discuss strengthening friendly collaborations. Deputy District Mayor Shi Fang participated.

Xue Kan expressed gratitude to Mr. Fan Tianyang and Mr. Kan Masahiko for their active contributions to promoting friendly exchanges and collaborations between Yangpu and Brazil and Japan, and introduced the economic and social development of Yangpu and its external collaborations. Xue Kan noted that Yangpu, with its "four centuries" of deep historical roots, has consistently adhered to an innovation-driven development strategy, carving out a transformational path from "Industrial Yangpu" to "Knowledge Yangpu" and then to "Innovation Yangpu." It is one of the city’s regions with the highest concentration of innovation and the greatest density of talents.

Xue Kan pointed out that Yangpu is actively implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech during his inspection of Shanghai, as well as the deployments of the municipal committee and municipal government. The district is energetically forging ahead with writing the "three major essays" on new practices in the People’s City, re-launching innovation development, and revitalizing Yangpu’s dynamic force, with deepening high-level international openness and strengthening international exchanges and collaborations being among the significant tasks. The Brazilian Consulate General in Shanghai, the Brazilian Agency for Export and Investment Promotion, Shanghai Japanese Commerce & Industry Club, and Sumitomo Mitsui Insurance have all made diligent efforts to deepen the exchanges and collaborations between Yangpu and Brazil and Japan. Hopes are high for both sides to deepen collaborations in economic and trade exchanges, investment attraction, technological innovation, and cultural exchanges. Yangpu will fully strive to create a market-oriented, legalized, and internationalized first-class business environment, supporting foreign enterprises from Brazil, Japan, and other countries to achieve better and greater development in Yangpu.

The Brazilian Consulate General in Shanghai and the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency have maintained close collaboration with Yangpu. In 2021, the Brazilian Innovation Center was inaugurated in Yangpu, hosting the China-Brazil Innovation Week for three consecutive years, which has become the largest technology innovation collaboration project between Brazil and China in the country. Fan Tianyang introduced the work related to the Brazilian Innovation Center and noted that Brazil has maintained a good collaborative relationship with Yangpu for many years. This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil. There is an anticipation of deeper collaboration between the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency and Yangpu to further enhance and create a comprehensive strategic collaborative Brazilian center, jointly writing a new chapter of mutual benefit and collaboration.

The Shanghai Japanese Commerce & Industry Club, established in 1982, is the largest Japanese business organization overseas and currently has more than 2,300 member institutions. Mr. Suga Masahiko, as the chairman of Shanghai Japanese Commerce & Industry Club, who is also the director and general manager of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance (China) Co., Ltd., stated that Yangpu has a solid foundation for collaboration with Japan, with leading digital economy enterprises gathering in Yangpu. He hopes to further promote friendly exchanges and economic and trade collaboration between Yangpu and Japan through joint efforts, exploring technology empowerment for financial digital transformation and digital innovation in financial insurance services.
