Residents Learn How to Make Desserts in Women’s H...
On May 23, residents gathered in “Creativity Bakery Workshop” in Women’s Home at Dinghai Community Neighborhood Center to learn how to make traditional Chinese desserts: steamed twisted rolls.

Residents formed into two groups and began to make steamed twisted rolls. One group took charge of kneading dough and putting dough aside to make it softer, while another group took charge of slicing scallions and preparing other materials. Comparing with slicing scallions, it is more difficult to knead dough, but volunteers gave instructions on how to do it. Put water of appropriate amount into a basin, pour flour into the basin, put baking powder into the basin, and knead dough finally. After finishing kneading dough, put it aside to make it softer.

The other group washed scallions and cut them into small pieces, and then, after completing fermentation, they cut the dough into several small pieces, knead the small pieces into shape of pancake, spread cooking oil, salt and other seasonings on the dough pieces, scattered scallions on dough pieces, rolled dough pieces into bar shapes, cut dough bars into small pieces, took two small pieces and put them together, pressed them with chopsticks, squeezed them with hands, put twisted rolls into the pot, heated them over low flame for 10 minutes and then, heated them over high flame with 15 to 20 minutes.

Look, here are the fresh steamed twisted rolls made by residents!

By attending this activity in “Women’s Home”, residents of Dinghai Community felt the fun of making traditional Chinese desserts. The “Women’s Home” has become a second home for women in the community, where they can make friends, chat with each other, attend DIY activities and have fun!
