Chunghwa Clarion to Sound for May Day Holidays

CHUNGHWA CLARION Shanghai Spring International Wind Music Festival 2012 and "China Cup" Sixth Performance of China Excellent Non-Professional (Symphonic) Wind Bands to open on April 29 will make the May Day holidays in Shanghaifull of music.

The wind music festival from April 29 to May1 inYangpu District, Shanghai will be jointly held by the Organizing Committee of Shanghai Spring International Music Festival (SSIMF), Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film and Television, Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Band of the People's Liberation Army, China Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, Shanghai Media & Entertainment Group, CPC Shanghai Yangpu District Committee, Shanghai Yangpu District People’s Government, Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration and General Office of Shanghai Municipal Leading Group for Development of Huangpu River Banks in the auspices of Shanghai Tobacco Group Co., Ltd. in a bid to further cultural development and prosperity according to the documents of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee.

 

The wind music festival consists of five sections of over 10 activities and nearly 20 performances. The participants are over 3,500 musicians of nearly 60 wind bands from Chinese Mainland's 12 provinces, Europe, theUS,Taiwanand the other parts of Asia, which is not only unprecedented inChinabut also rarely seen in world festivals of the same kind.

The opening ceremony of the wind music festival will be held on the morning of April29 Qinhuangdao Road“Expo Watergate” in Yangpu Riverside Development Belt. Afterwards, the festival’s biggest highlight will appear as over 2,000 winders of 35 domestic and foreign wind bands present CHUNGHWA CLARION between the Bund known for "Wanguo Building Complex" and the Oriental Pearl Tower known as "Shanghai's new landmark" on nine big cruise ships.

In addition, world-class conductor Meyer was invited to give a high-level music feast of the plays listed into SSIMF together with the Band of the People’s Liberation Army’ at Oriental Arts Center. The Band of the People’s Liberation Army Navy, Korea’s Hanyang University Symphonic Orchestra and five topnotch bands from Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Hebei and Guangdong will give Chinese and foreign visitors full access to the charming wind music on Century Square, China’s No. 1 street Nanjing Road. Meanwhile, a wide platform will be built up to promote exchanges and communication.

Forty-eight excellent non-professional (symphonic) wind bands selected from 12 provinces throughout the country will strengthen friendship by communicating and competing with each other at Hudong Workers’CulturalPalacein groups of elementary schools, secondary schools and colleges and social groups. Besides, domestic judges and judges from theUS,Holand,SingaporeandKoreawill held award ceremony and summing-up meeting for the performances on May 1 at the Training Center of School of Journalism ofFudanUniversityto give advice to the bands and improve wind music.

Moreover, excellent Chinese and foreign marching bands will give an evening performance in bright light at Fudan University Chia Tai Gymnasium. Beautiful melodies, sprightly rhythm and changing formations will lead to a perfect combination of light, music and dances. In particular, the Blind's Wind Band of Chongqing Special Education Center will make its debut in the festival to play the strong tone of life through amazing music.

As a part of SSIMF, the wind music festival has been held for four years in a row since 2008 and has become a beautiful postcard of Yangpu National Innovation Pilot District. Given Shanghai Cultural Event Professional Operation Award, it has won high praise from the assessment on the city’s cultural events as one ofShanghai’s major cultural festival programs.

According to incomplete statistics, the wind music festival attracted the participation of 12,571 performers of 22 foreign bands from nearly 10 countries like the US, Korea, Spain, Japan and Malaysia and excellent 142 domestic bands from tens of provinces and municipalities of Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao, as well as world-known Band of the People’s Liberation Army and Band of the People’s Liberation Army Navy in the past four years and a live audience of nearly 280,000, which has a far-reaching influence on domestic and overseas music circle.
