By Cao Lingjuan

The Wind Music Festival of the “Chunghwa Clarion” 2012 Shanghai Spring International Music Festival played the opening music this morning at Qinhuangdao Road "Expo Watergate", Yangpu District Riverside Development Belt.

After the short and solemn opening ceremony, the most eye-catching activity of this music festival—foreign and domestic orchestras' grand tour, was held on Huangpu River. Nine giant cruise ships carrying more than 2,000 musicians from 35 foreign and domestic orchestras were cruising between the Bund renowned for "International Architecture Expo" and Oriental Pearl Tower nicknamed “Shanghai’s New Landmark". Music from different countries fell and rose one after another, thus forming a beautiful note skyline over Huangpu River.

This Wind Music Festival was held during April 29 to May 1. It has a total of five major sections, more than a dozen of activities, and nearly twenty performances. Over 3,500 winders of nearly 60 orchestras at home and abroad participated in this festival. This music festival also invited the world-class music master Meyer to conduct the the band of the People's Liberation Army at Shanghai Oriental Art Center to present a high-level music feast.

As the only "festival in festival" of Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, the Wind Music Festival has been held for four consecutive times in Yangpu since 2008. According to incomplete statistics, over the four years, the Wind Music Festival has attracted more than 160 excellent teams from America, Korea, Spain, Japan, Malaysia, and more than a dozen of provinces and cities from all over the country, Hongkong and Macau. Nearly 280,000 citizens watched the performances on the spot.
