2,000 Winders Perform on HuangpuRiverin 29th Shan...

On the morning of April 29, over 2,000 winders of 35 domestic and foreign wind bands performed majestic Chunghwa clarion between the 100-year-old Bund and theOrientalPearlToweron nine big cruise ships.

This grandeur was a part of the 29th Shanghai Spring International Music Festival (SSIMF) which opened at Shanghai Grand Theater in the evening of April 28. SSIMF is the oldest international festival inChina.

At that night, century-old Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Zhang Liang and Cao Ding successively, performed four nationally awarded Chinese music masterpieces debuted in SSIMF in the 1980s, namely, piano concerto "Mountain Forest" by Liu Dunnan, "The First Violin Concerto" by Chen Qiangbin, "The Second Erhu Rhapsody" by Wang Jianmin, and music lyric "China, My Adorable Mother" by Chairman Lu Zaiyi of Shanghai Musicians' Association and Zhao Lihong, famous poet and Vice Chairman of Shanghai Writers' Association.

It's worth mentioning that the performance of the long-tested Chinese classics with the participation of performers born in the 1980s and 1990s presented a refreshing style and composed outlook. In particular, 16-year-old Zhang Jinru, grade 10 student from the Secondary Music School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music, commemorated the 10th anniversary of Tangshan Earthquake through emotional violin solo.

In the 21-day SSIMF, troupes and artists of countries including theUS,France,Portugal,Russia, Armenia,Scotland,Japan,CubaandPolandwill present 39 singing and dancing shows to add color to the charm and cultural atmosphere of cultural cosmopolisShanghai.
